                                                                                            Member Showcase

Text Box: I am writing this in June and yet, the weather seems like April.  Fuzzy shows sure seem like a good idea right now.  I have had the opportunity to go places and do things as ADGA Youth Representative this past couple months and thought I would share them with all of you.
In April, I attended a show in Tucson, Arizona.  I was able to show a few goats, ring steward for two rings at one (not the easiest job to do!) and even see the location where the Convention will be held later his year.
In May, I attended the First Annual Spindale Dairy Goat Festival.  Thank you Wyoming Dairy Goat Association for sponsoring my trip.  I got the chance to help with vet check and hand out ribbons.  I was able to tour the ADGA office and meet some of the staff members who work there.  It was really fun to be able to put faces with names.
A couple of weekends ago I was able to attend the NWODGA show in Oregon.  Again I was ring steward and helped with ribbons.  I came back with many ideas for prizes from the show.  The club asked me if I could spend a few extra days there, so that I could see some special places.  I was able to see the ocean for the first time.  WOW!  It was incredible.  I had always heard about the color, sound, and taste, but had never had the chance to actually experience it for myself.
As soon as I landed in Denver, I headed north to teach a fitting clinic for our local dairy goat youth.  They all brought their animals and I showed them how to completely body clip their goats.  This was the last in a series of meetings/clinics we’ve held for the local youth as we prepare for fair.  We had a veterinarian come talk to the 4-Hers in April.  In May, we held a showmanship clinic where the youth brought their animals and we practiced different maneuvers, parts, and showing our goats.
Today we are going to have a dairy goat display for Dairy Goat Awareness Week at a local farm supply store.  If the weather cooperates, there will be a few milkers for milking demonstrations.  If not, then there will be the posters and handouts for anyone who is interested.  The baby goats get to come and be cute and cuddly to prove to everyone that goats are not all stinky and mean.
I hope everyone has had a good year so far and I hope to see many of you at the Tri-County show in July.
