At the end of January, the dairy goat youth got together
to make goat collards, a technique Kathy Kelley taught us at Convention. We
had about 20 people who were able to make one collar and take home the
materials for another one. We also played goat bingo and an icebreaker to
make sure everyone got to know everyone. Thank you to the Stutz family for
bringing the tasty snacks. If anyone wants a copy of the directions for
these collars, email me. They are really easy to make and there are many
different colors of jute you can use.
At this get-together, I also handed out quilt squares
for the youth to decorate. The quilt squares will be put together and the
quilt raffled off as a fundraiser for the youth activities at the 2012
National Show in Loveland, Colorado. If anyone wants a couple of quilt
squares to decorate, email me and give me you mailing address and I will
send you some squares.
We all had a great time making collars and met some new
friends. If anyone has another activity they think would be fun to do,
please let me know. I want to have another “party” for the dairy goat
people in the Colorado/Wyoming area.
Another thing for you all to think about, let’s do
something on June 12th, for Dairy Goat Awareness week. If anyone
has an idea or a location for this, I would like to hear about it. My email
address is
hannah@adga.org. Happy kidding to you all.
